The GOAT Device reads, computes and stores: alarms are born on board and reach your phone as a notification, even with the app closed. The phone is for seeing and deciding.

Add a tee to the backbone
Just like any NMEA 2000 instrument. With Raymarine SeaTalk NG you use the adapter cable.

Plug the drop cable and mount the box
Two screws on the flanges, somewhere dry near the bus. The device powers up from the bus: wait for the solid green LED, it takes two or three minutes.

Open the app and run setup
Settings, GOAT Device, Set up new device. Your phone joins the device hotspot and you pick the boat Wi-Fi. Internet is needed the first time.

Data flows
A few minutes later the device has updated itself, sensors are recognised and the first voyage is recording. From Device management you save more Wi-Fi networks, reboot or reset.
The data and what it is for

Every number in the app answers a concrete question. These are the readings from the General and Electrical pages, with the question each one answers.
Anchor Guard
<em>Am I dragging?</em> The device checks your position against the radius you set. If you leave it, the notification is sent from on board and your phone sounds loud, even with the screen off.
House battery
<em>Can I stay out another day?</em> State of charge, voltage, current in or out, estimated time to full or empty.
Solar and balance
<em>Am I making more than I use?</em> Power per MPPT controller, energy since sunrise, inverter and shore power.
Tanks
<em>How much water is left?</em> Water, diesel, waste: level and daily use, for every tank on the network.
Depth
<em>Will the tide leave me dry?</em> Depth below keel with the last hour's graph and a shallow water alarm at your threshold.
Wind
<em>Is it building at anchor?</em> True and apparent wind, gust over the last 30 minutes, and at the dock it tells you whether the wind pushes you onto or off the pontoon.
Position and voyages
<em>Where is the boat now, and where has it been?</em> GPS position, course, speed and voyages recorded automatically, with GPX, KML and video export.

<em>Will anyone tell me if something happens?</em> Anchor, wind, battery, depth, bilge, engine, GPS: a bell on every card, your thresholds, a history of every alarm with when it fired and when it cleared.
Anchor Guard
The night at anchor, with someone watching.
Drop
Mark the anchor on the map, or let the app recognise the manoeuvre by itself. With the phone's or the boat's GPS. Nudge the point with the arrows in 1, 5 or 10 metre steps and confirm with Set.
Watch who is around you
The app suggests scope from depth and expected weather. The AIS radar shows nearby boats with distance and course; with neighbour watch you get a warning if one gets too close, and you can draw hazard lines around the anchorage.
If you drag, you know within twenty seconds
The GOAT Device checks the position against the radius and sends the notification from on board. The phone turns red with the distance from the anchor and three buttons: widen the radius, silence on this phone, raise anchor.
Next morning, the night in writing
Every alarm stays in the history: when it fired, how long it lasted, when it cleared. In the Croatian tests a night with wind from 4 to 28 knots and a big swing passed with no false alarm.

General
Position, speed, course, depth and the button to put the anchor under watch. With the plus button you sniff the NMEA network and add any sensor as a card.
Polar and coach
The app collects data while you sail, builds your boat's polar and the coach tells you whether you are doing well or should bear away. Real recording.
Wind at the dock
Tell the app which side you are moored on and it tells you whether the wind pushes you onto or off the dock. Useful at dinner ashore, to relax.
Under way
Weather read by your own boat, voyages that write themselves.
The storm alert downloads the GRIBs for your position and corrects them with what the onboard sensors actually measure: wind, pressure, temperature, roll. The result is a 24 hour forecast for your boat, not for the area.
Every outing becomes a voyage: track, miles, average speed, wind. Export it as GPX or KML, or turn it into a video with the animated route to share, like the one here.

Readings depend on the sensors present on the boat's NMEA 2000 network: without a wind instrument, for example, wind and polar stay empty.

Tiles are examples of how data shows up in the app. Wind, sounder, AIS and chartplotter come from the instruments you already have: anything that speaks NMEA 2000 ends up in the app. Wi-Fi, USB or Ethernet gateways are not needed: the GOAT Device does that. Compatibility
What you need on board.
- NMEA 2000An NMEA 2000 network with at least one GPS source switched on: plotter, VHF or satellite compass. The GOAT Device plugs into the backbone with a standard drop cable.
- SeaTalk NGRaymarine SeaTalk NG networks connect with the SeaTalk NG to NMEA 2000 adapter cable. SeaTalk 1 needs a converter.
- VictronCerbo GX, SmartShunt and MPPT controllers through VRM credentials, encrypted. Multiple battery banks too, each with its own name.
- Internet on boardRemote access needs boat Wi-Fi with internet: 4G or 5G router, Starlink, marina Wi-Fi. The device remembers several networks and switches to the one available. Without internet it works in Direct Connect and the app joins its hotspot.
- Phone and browseriPhone with iOS 17 or later, Android, and the web dashboard. Device setup happens on the phone.
- Works alongsideOrca Core, PredictWind DataHub, Garmin, B&G and Raymarine plotters: the GOAT Device only reads, it writes nothing to the network.
Questions before you order.
Do I need a GOAT Device to use the app?
The app is free and you can sign in without a device. To read your own boat you need a GOAT Device on board: it connects to the NMEA 2000 network and sends the data to your account. Boats shared with you by their owner show up without a device.
Do I need internet to set up the device?
Your phone connects to the device hotspot directly, but the first setup needs internet on the boat Wi-Fi so the device can register. After that it also works in Direct Connect, without internet, for local data.
What happens if I cancel Plus?
You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for, then the account goes back to Free. Boats, history and settings stay. Anchor Guard and core alarms keep working.
Does the boat need to stay switched on?
The GOAT Device is powered by the NMEA 2000 bus, so the network must stay on, including one GPS source. That is what a boat left in a marina usually keeps on anyway.
Can I use it on more than one boat?
Yes. One GOAT Device per boat, up to 3 boats with Plus. You switch boat from the app.
Can I share my boat?
Yes. Invite crew or family by email: they see the boat data in read-only mode. Free shares with 3 guests, Plus without limits. A public link lets anyone with a free account follow your position.
What if I replace the device?
Set up the new device and it takes over the boat: history and settings stay with your account.
